No Suspects in Wave of Vandalism

None of the 25 victims caught vandals in the act.

The night after the Fourth of July, there were some fireworks of a different, less popular kind in a couple of areas of Inver Grove Heights.

At least 25 residents were victims of a vandalism spree that night.

(Vandals) seem to have attacked things that were outside in people's yards,” said Lieutenant Larry Stanger of the Inver Grove Heights police department. “Outdoor lighting, potted plants; patio sets (were) thrown about the yard.”

Police received 25 reports of property damage starting the night of July 5 and spilling over to the early-morning hours of July 6.

“And there may have been more people who either didn't realize (they were victims), or just didn't report it,” Stanger said.

In addition to the large number of victims in such a short timeframe, Stanger said one other factor made this case unique.

“All of the reports were after the fact,” he said. “No one called during the incidents.

“So there are no suspects, but if one were to guess, one would assume it was juveniles or young adults.”

Most of the incidents were concentrated in two clusters, one along 78th St. west of Concord Boulevard, and the other southwest of there in the areas of Concord Boulevard and Cahill Ave. E.
