Police Blotter: Man Throws Half-Naked Motel Tantrum

See what the Inver Grove Heights police force has been up to.

Feb. 4:  Public nuisance

Police responded to a complaint of disturbing the peace and a possible burn without permit on the 4800 block of Boyd Ave. The responding officer heard “extremely loud music” from a nearby intersection. The property owner, a 32 year-old man, provided the officer with a valid Inver Grove Heights burn permit, but the officer did observe several permit violations. There were two fires going at the same time (only one was permitted). The fires were in excess of size listed. There was no water source nearby. The owner admitted he had no way to put out the fire if it got out of control. Nearby brush was extremely dry.

The man was initially confrontational, but he calmed down, became apologetic and agreed to meet permit conditions in the future. No charges were filed.

Police responded to a call from a 23 year-old woman who had been renting an apartment on the 1700 block of 52nd St. with her 26 year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend had moved out. The woman was now sharing the apartment with a 27 year-old female friend. The first woman said she had been receiving blocked phone calls and text messages constantly. She had also seen the boyfriend standing outside the building in a black hoodie and staring at her late at night.

The officer advised the women to change their cell phone numbers and stop calls from blocked numbers. He informed them that, since the boyfriend’s name was still on the lease, he could not tell him that he could not be outside the apartment. He explained how the women could petition for an Order for Protection, advised them on ways to stay safe, and recommended they find another pace to live.

Feb. 5:  Burglary, damage to property

Police were called to the 3400 block of 75th St. The resident, a 48 year-old woman, said she had found that the service door of her unattached garage had been broken into when she came outside that morning. She had trouble getting the key into her car’s ignition, and noticed that the dash around the ignition was broken. The car started, but shut down right away. There are no suspects or witnesses.

Feb. 7: Disorderly conduct

Police responded to a call from a motel on Bishop Ave. The clerk reported that one of the guests, a 45 year-old male, had been verbally abusive to her and harassed other guests at the front desk. According to the police report, the suspect was not wearing a shirt, and sweating profusely. He went from agitated to calm and vice versa. Police handcuffed him and secured him in the squad car.  The suspect said he had been drinking, but denied having used drugs. A guest had heard the suspect yelling at an unidentified woman in his room. When police checked the room, it was empty. The suspect later said the woman had supplied him with methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. He was transported to Dakota County Jail.

Feb. 8: Small amount of marijuana in vehicle

Police saw a vehicle in the parking lot of a store on Cahill Ave. Its license plate was flagged ‘Revoked No Fault – Cite Only’. The vehicle pulled into a nearby fastfood restaurant’s, drive-through without ordering, and stopped in the parking lot. When they approached vehicle, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana. All three occupants put their hands up. The 19 year-old, male driver’s license had been suspended. He said he had purchased vehicle very recently, and had not yet transferred the title, or purchased insurance.

All of the car's occupants denied they knew of any marijuana in the vehicle. Each one consented to be patted down by the officers. Subsequently, the car was searched. A bag containing small amount of marijuana was found under the passenger seat. The car’s occupants denied it was theirs.

The vehicle was impounded. One suspect was given a citation, another was driven home.
