SSP Man Sentenced to 21 Months After Guilty Plea

Timothy John Stone, 47, punched, strangled and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, her children and his own children.

A 47-year-old South St. Paul man was sentenced Wednesday to 21 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility at St. Cloud after pleading guilty to one count of felony domestic assault by strangulation.

Dakota County District Court Judge Marth M. Simonett stayed the execution of the sentence for three years—essentially placing Timothy John Stone on probation until 2015.

Stone was arrested inside a tent in Wentworth Park on May 29 after police say he punched, strangled and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, her children and his own children.

Stone was originally charged with domestic assault by strangulation, terroristic threats and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault but Judge Simonett dismissed the lesser charges in exchange for his plea.

At the time of his arrest Stone denied having an altercation with the woman and told police he didn't know how the marks on her neck appeared.
