All-Day Kindergarten, New Fire Station Top City Council and School Board Agendas

Every other week, Patch will publish a preview of the City Council and school board agendas.

The Inver Grove Heights City Council and the District 199 School Board are both holding public meetings on Monday night.

Council meetings is scheduled for 7:30pm at City Hall on 8150 Barbara Ave. The school board is scheduled to meet at 7pm at the Family Connections facility on 1515 5th Ave. S. in South St. Paul. Here's a preview of the agendas for the two groups:

  • The search may commence on Monday night for a site in Inver Grove Heights. After tabling a the motion at its meeting on May 9, the council is expected to vote to approve a $22,000 contract with DLR Group/KKE. If the contract is approved, the firm will help the city identify locations for a proposed third fire station.
  • The council is expected to hold a public hearing to consider ' application for a new off-sale liquor license. Cameron's from its current location to a new home at 6533 Concord. Blvd., the site of Cameron Park.
  • On Monday night, the council may approve an $18,530 contract with architects Partners & Sirny to help the city develop its plans for Heritage Village Park. If hired, the firm would be responsible for creating an architectural style for the planned facilities at the park, drafting floor and exterior plans for the buildings, developing cost estimates for the buildings and assessing the condition of two historic structures that may be moved to the park.
  • Council members may approve a resolution calling for a public hearing on June 13 to discuss a new agreement with Inver Grove Heights Investment, LLC., the developer of the Argenta Hills area. Under the terms of the proposed agreement, the developer will complete construction of roughly 150,000 square feet of retail space in the area and finish site improvements — together estimated to cost $2.2 million.

    For its part, the city will funnel $1.25 million from an existing Tax Increment Financing District to assist the developer with the construction. Argenta Hills, near the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Robert Trail South, is the location of a proposed SuperTarget store. Construction of the SuperTarget was suspended in early 2009, after the recession dealt a body blow to development across the Twin Cities.

District 199 School Board

  • The school board may vote to hire the equivalent of two additional full-time staff members so that the district can pursue an all-day kindergarten program. Proponents of the program say it could boost test scores and improve literacy among students in the district. However, the program is expected to cost in excess of $26,000 to implement.
