City Council Roundup: Road Extensions, a Parking Lot and a Renovated McDonald's

In addition to Monday night's emotional presentation, the city council considered a handful of construction projects for the upcoming summer.

 

Monday night's city council meeting was largely about and ensuring his memory stays strong in the hearts and minds of IGH residents. 

But also adorning the agenda were a few tidbits of government business related to construction projects facing the community this summer.

Improvements to McDonald's

The council unanimously approved a change to the to the site, grade and elevation of the  located at the corner of Cahill Ave. and 80th Street. 

The changes will result in the restaurant receiving a double-lane drive thru and an upgrade to the exterior of the building.

The project will close one of the entrances to the site, leaving the entrance on the East side of 80th Street as the only way to access the restaurant.     

93rd Street Extension

The council set a May 14 public hearing date for a road project that will connect 90th Street to the intersection of 93rd Street and Abigail Court. 

Before approving the hearing date, councilman Bill Klein wanted to make sure the public was behind the project.

"How many people are going to be assessed? If we get too much negative feedback I’m not going to go ahead," Klein said. "Why beat a dead horse?" 

But as Community Development Director Tom Link told the council, the estimated $180,000 project has been in the planning stages for a year and all of the 11 homeowners that will be assessed taxes to pay for the project have signed a petition to get it done.

66th Street Parking Lot & Trails

The council agreed to oversee an estimated $644,000 project to build a parking lot and trails to complement the Heritage Village Park project located south of 66th Street East between Donnelly and Doffing avenues.

Dakota County will foot the entire bill for the project unless one or both alternate designs are approved.

The first alternate design would include infrastructure to have running water on the site, which would add $13,000 to the overall cost. The second alternate design would add electrical service throughout the park, which would cost an extra $19,000. 

If one or both alternate designs are approved, the only businesses assessed additional taxes would be , and the .
