Pertussis can affect anyone, but it can be much more serious in infants. Pertussis is spread through the air by coughing.

It is important that people of all ages be up to date on their pertussis vaccinations. Infants should begin the series of DTaP vaccinations at 2 months of age, receiving five doses before starting kindergarten. At 10 years of age a child should receive a Tdap booster. Anyone 10 years or older who has not had a booster is encouraged to get one now. This is also the season for flu vaccinations – flu vaccine is recommended for anyone 6 months of age and older.
