Filing Period Open for School Board Elections

The filing period for the School District 199 School Board elections starts on Tuesday. Here's all the information you'll need if you plan to file for office.

Calling all candidates!

The filing period for the School District 199 School Board elections opens today.

Four incumbent board members are up for re-election this year, including Keri Myran, Phil Prokopowicz, board chair Mickey Difronzo and Bridget Sutton. School Board members are elected to four-year terms and take office the first Monday in January. The board has a total of seven members.

School Board election filings will be accepted at the district office, located adjacent to Simley High School at 2990 80th St. E. Filings open on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 and close on Tuesday, August 16. Interested candidates can fill out filing forms from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will be open for filing until 5 p.m. on on August 16. The filing fee is $2.

To be eligible to serve, a school board member candidate must be on the date of election at least 21 years of age, an eligible voter and a district resident for at least 30 days immediately preceding the election. The candidate cannot be a convicted felon or registered sex offender.

Voters this fall will also have a chance to vote in a special election concerning a levy referendum for the Inver Grove Heights school district. For more information on the proposed levies, which could generate as much as $4.2 million in tax revenue annually for the district if all options are approved, .
