Other facts

Biography I grew up in South St. Paul with five sisters and two brothers. Attended St. Augustine grade school through 8th grade and graduated from South St. Paul High School.

I was active in football, baseball, hockey and on the student council, which sparked my interest in a political career. Two of my high school highlights were meeting my wife Barb in 9th grade and scoring a goal in the High School Hockey Tournament Championship game (1968).

I attended the University of Minnesota for one year and joined the Minnesota Air National Guard in 1970 as a medic. I was stationed at Andrews AFB and worked at Malcolm Grow Hospital in the emergency room. Returning home, I went back to school and worked at Divine Redeemer Ambulance Service.

Barb and I were married in 1971. We bought our first home in Inver Grove Heights in 1974. We have three grown children Ben, Renee Pawlenty and Teresa Deering. All attended Hilltop Elementary, Simley High School and Inver Hills Community College.

One of my true loves was coaching the kids in softball, baseball and hockey. As a family we enjoyed numerous camping trips with relatives and friends.

I worked at Divine Redeemer Hospital as a Paramedic / Ambulance Director for 10 years and in 1981 went in the restaurant business for two years. In 1983 I started my telecommunications sales career at Air Comm. The past 20 plus years I have worked at TIE Communications, Norstan, AT&T, Lucent, Expanets, Cross and Techpower.

I recently was hired at SEH in Vadnais Heights as a Senior Regional Sales Manager covering the Metro and St. Cloud area. We just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and Barb recently retired from CHS after 33 years of service.

We have been blessed with five grand-children; Taylor and Cole Pawlenty and Lauren, Alayna and Chase Deering who all live in Inver Grove Heights. We also have two great son-in-laws Mike Pawlenty and Brett Deering.

I still play a little softball and get together with some retired IGH Firefighters to play golf. I love High School and College sports and try to go to as many local games as possible.

I love this city and would be honored to serve another term as your Mayor. These are exciting times and I would like to continue to work with you to make IGH a better place to live, work, learn and play.
