65th Street Reconstruction Project Will Cost How Much?

Public Works Director Scott Thureen said bids will be opened during the first week of May.

Inver Grove Heights Public Works Director Scott Thureen told a group of local business owners today that the cost of the 65th Street Road Reconstruction project could reach $7 million.

Called a "full reconstruction," Thurseen said the 65th Street project—which spans from Babcock Trail over Highway 52 to Cahill Avenue—is one of the largest road projects in recent IGH history.

Thureen also told the group at Tuesday's Business Town Hall Meeting at that there would likely be closures along 65th Street but that he would not know the specifics of such closures for another 3-4 weeks.

Thureen warned those present that this is going to be a long-term project that could continue into 2013.

"This project is kind of dependent on how the weather man treats us," Thureen told the crowd. "Because it is a full reconstruction, any rain will slow us down."

Bids will be opened during the first week of May and after verifying numbers and checking the math, the contract for the project will be awarded during the subsequent City Council meeting.

"Seven million is our projection but I guess we'll see how close we are in May," Thureen told Patch.
