Inver Grove City Council Looking for Residents' Feedback on Front Yard Parking

Looking to curb vehicle and "toy" parking on local lawns, the city is turning to residents for feedback on limitations it wants to enact in Inver Grove neighborhoods.

Parking on your front yard is encouraged for things like washing your car. After all, why not kill two birds with one stone and water the lawn while getting your "wheels" a little brighter and whiter (or redder, whatever).
But parking your car on your lawn - or boat, ATV or work truck - might be against city code soon, if the Inver Grove Heights City Council moves forward with an ordinance that will limit front yard vehicle parking to paved surfaces only.
According to the city's website front yard parking is becoming a big issue in the community. Therefore, the council is seeking to set these limits:
Front Yard is the area between the curb or edge of street and front of house.
• No parking on grass in front yard.
• Parking allowed only on a hard surface such as asphalt or concrete in front yard.
• Applies to corner lots as well.

The City Council is considering rules that would allow parking of cars, trailers, boats, RV’s, campers, snowmobiles/trailer, ATV/trailer, etc. in the front yard only on the driveway or other paved surface connected to the driveway. This would not prohibit parking of these items in the front yard but would prohibit them from being parked on grass in the front yard. Parking of these items would still be allowed in the side and rear yards on grass.

The City Council would like feedback before any decisions are made.  If residents would like more information or if you would like to comment or have concerns regarding this possible requirement, please leave any comments at this link
