Inver Grove Heights City Council, School Board Preview

The council may approve a new park naming policy, while the school board is considering a fee increase for its community preschool program.

The Inver Grove Heights City Council and the District 199 School Board are holding public meetings on Monday night. Here's a preview of some of the agenda items for both groups:

Inver Grove Heights City Council

  • The City Council is expected to discuss a new parking naming policy that would formalize the process the city uses to name parks and recreational facilities. The goals of the policy, according to city officials, are to ensure that parks, recreational areas, and facilities can be easily identified and located, ensure that the given names to parks, recreational areas and facilities are consistent with the values and character of the area served and to encourage participation in the naming of parks, recreation areas and facilities.
  • The Rock Island Swing Bridge is scheduled to open to the public on June 8, and the council may approve a new set of rules and regulations for the park. If approved, the rules could include no diving or jumping from the bridge, no climbing or hanging from the bridge and no motor vehicles on the bridge, among other regulations.
  • The council may approve a new off-sale intoxicating liquor license for the Mayjune Corporation, which is in the process of purchasing the former Lager Liquor property on South Robert Trail and wants to open a new liquor store operation on the site, according to city staff.
  • The council is expected to vote on an amendment to a purchase agreement with Cameron's Liquor Warehouse. Cameron's plans to buy Cameron Park, a little-used city park along Concord Boulevard, and intends to build a $2 million building on the site. If the amended contract is approved, Cameron's will pay a reduced purchase price of $210,000 for the property. The council may also approve the final platting for the site.
  • Council members may consider the approval of a conditional use permit for the owners of a daycare service provider who plans to open a new facility on 65th Street near Cahill Avenue.
