Inver Grove Heights City Council, School Board Preview

The council may take action on a proposed domestic partner registry ordinance during its regular meeting on Monday, while the school board is expected to review local testing scores.

The Inver Grove Heights City Council is holding a public meeting tonight, while the Independent School District 199 School Board has a work session scheduled. Here's a preview of the agendas for both groups. The council meeting starts at 7 p.m. at , and will be preceded by a work session which begins at 5:30 p.m. The school board work session will be held at 7 p.m. in the district office. Inver Grove Heights City Council

  • that could bring a licensed rehabilitative or therapeutic massage business to . Allowing such a business to rent space in the facility would generate more revenue for city coffers and improve the services offered at the community center, city staff said. On Monday evening, the council is expected to begin the search with a formal request for proposals from interested businesses. 
  • The council is expected to vote on Monday whether to approve the purchase of a new, battery-powered Zamboni ice resurfacing machine for $103,516.
  • The council has been asked to approve a $31,500 contract with Great River Greening to restore wetland areas in Heritage Village Park. Grant funding from the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund will pay pay for $21,000 of the total cost for the contract, while the city would cover the remainder, $10,500. The two-year restoration project would begin this fall.
  • The council is expected to vote on the first reading of a proposed domestic partner registration ordinance on Monday night. If approved, the registry would allow unmarried couples—both heterosexual and homosexual—to document their relationship. Proponents say the list, if approved, would give legitimacy to unmarried couples and help those couples obtain health insurance through their employers. But city council member Bill Klein says the registry is unnecessary and a waste of time and resources for the city. Public comment on the proposed registry will be heard prior to any action taken by the council.

Independent School District 199 School Board

  • At it's work session on Monday, the board is expected to review the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment scores that district schools received earlier this summer. The board will also be discussing its literacy curriculum and the 2011 levy referendum.
