Inver Grove Heights City Council

  • Inver Grove Heights resident Catherine Link wants to fight back against the obscene and inappriopriate graffiti that occasionally appears in a pedestrian tunnel on College Trail—with more graffiti. Link has submitted a petition and a proposal to the Inver Grove Heights City Council to allow graffiti artists to use the tunnel as a palette for more constructive art. The council is expected to vote whether to approve the proposal at its meeting on Monday.
  • Inverhills Church officials are asking for the council to approve a variance that would allow the church to construct a 70-square-foot sign along Hwy. 55 to increase the church's visibility. The church has 1,500 feet of frontage along the highway. The council is expected to vote whether to approve the sign on Monday night.
  • The council may approve a contact with Woods Construction & Carpentry, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $40,000 to construct an overlook deck at the Rock Island Swing Bridge, as part of the bridge's master plan. The proposed deck would likely be built at the end of the railroad track leading to the bridge, and would overlook the pier.
  • The pending foreclosure of the Summit Pines residential development is back on the Inver Grove Heights City Council's agenda for Sept. 26, after the council tabled any action on the issue two weeks ago. Wells Fargo Bank has moved to foreclose on 36 vacant lots in the development, and has requested the city release the property and its developer, IGH Development, LLC., from the development contract. But the developer and the bank were in dispute over the status of the property, and a representative for IGH Development, LLC. requested earlier this month that the city delay releasing the contract until the dispute is resolved. On Sept. 21, the bank proceeded with a Sheriff's Sale for the property, triggering a one-year redemption period during the developer can redeem the property by paying the bank. No action by the council is being requested at this time. The release of the development contract will be considered at a later time.

School District 199 School Board

  • The school board is expected to vote whether to approve the second reading of several revised policies relating to the selection of new superintendents, and the superintendent's duties and contract. The board also plans to approve the levy limitation and certification for 2011 payable 2012.
