Inver Grove Heights City Council, School Board Preview

The council is expected to approve the Convention and Visitors Bureau's 2012 budget, while the school board will likely certify the 2011 special and general election results.

The Inver Grove Heights City Council and School District 199 School Board are holding public meetings on Monday night. Here's a preview of the agenda for both groups. Inver Grove Heights City Council

  • The Inver Grove Heights City Council is expected to schedule a public hearing on Dec. 12, 2011, to consider liquor license renewals for the 2012 calendar year. 
  • At its meeting on Monday night, the council is expected to approve the 2012 Convention and Visitors Bureau budget in the amount of $82,000—which would be a $2,000 increase from the CVB's 2011 budget. The bureau, which is 10 years old this year, helps market the city to tourists. Much of the money in the CVB's budget is derived from lodging tax revenue.
  • The council may vote to approve a conditional use permit to allow a property owner on Albavar Path to construct a 1,350 square foot pole building with sheet metal siding. The property is zoned for agricultural uses.
  • On Monday night, the council is expected to vote to approve the third reading of an ordinance prohibiting the use of coal tar-based sealant within the city. City officials believe the sealant may be responsible for the build-up of carcinogens within city ponds.

School District 199 School Board

  • The school board is expected to approve the 2010-2011 audit report on during its meeting on Monday night. The board may also approve a new lease for the Family and Kid Connections program in the amount of $16,480 per month, plus a portion of taxes and maintenance costs for the space. The board is also expected to certify the results from the 2011 levy referendum special elections and general election.
  • The school district recently received a $5,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Education to institute a new environmental and outdoor education program at Simley's Alternative Learning Program. The board is expected to vote whether to accept the grant money on Monday night.
