Inver Hills Military Veteran Population Up 68 Percent

With more than 800 registered students this year, veterans and service personnel make up the largest constituent group on campus.

The number of military veterans and service members enrolled at (IHCC) increased 68 percent between 2008 and 2010, according to recent information released from the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System.

According to a release issued Monday, (IHCC) had 276 veteran students enrolled in 2008, 466 in 2010 and current estimates indicate more than 800 veterans and service members on campus for the 2011-12 academic year—more than half of which attend IHCC full time.

If those numbers are accurate, military and service personnel now make up the largest constituent group on the IHCC campus.

In addition to offering priority registration sessions for veterans and service members—Mar. 27-29—IHCC also offers a veterans support group, employs a full-time Veteran Services Coordinator and is home to a Veterans Lounge.

Owing to its efforts in helping raise awareness and promote best practices for working with veterans and service members, IHCC was named a company by Gov. Mark Dayton in Aug. 2011.
