A new master plan approved by the Minnesota Zoo’s board this month calls for new amusements, new animal exhibits and an emphasis on conservation.

According to a story in the Pioneer Press on Monday, visitors could see some of the zoo additions by 2014.

Included in the master plan, approved by the zoo’s board on Nov. 1, are:
• Construction of Crossroad Park, with a carousel, gift shop and play area; and Adventure Park, with zip lines, a rope course and a Chutes and Ladders play area.
• Addition of new African and Asian animal exhibits.
• Emphasis on the zoo’s conservation work, like its animal breeding and habitat programs.

No price tags or timelines were included in the master plan.

Lee Ehmke, the zoo’s CEO, told the Pioneer Press that the Crossroad and Adventure parks could be finished by 2014, depending on funding.
