ISD 199 announced yesterday that it is the first Minnesota school district to have an iTunes app.
According to its Facebook page, ISD 199 has become the first school district in Minnesota to have created an app in iTunes.
Although schools and iTunes seldom mix well, app developer K12AppDesign is touting the ISD 199 project as a way to keep students and parents better informed.

According to a statement from an ISD 199 spokesperson, the district is launching two other pieces of technology aimed at facilitating communication between parents, students and teachers:
The district also has established a presence on iTunes University. Users can watch videos about the district or explore lessons and challenges for students in various grade levels.
One example of how this feature is currently being used is by asking students to use math mastery skills (and) creative problem solving strategies to complete challenges. Families can subscribe to collections within the district’s feed so that new episodes are automatically downloaded to their iTunes library or device immediately when they are posted.
Another digital update is the transformation of TIES SchoolView. TIES, a school district cooperative that delivers technology solutions to educators, recently updated the parent portal used by ISD 199 so that it is more user friendly and easier to read on mobile devices.
Using their login information, families are able to monitor their students' attendance, grades, lunch selections and homework schedule from one convenient location. This feature will help families track their student’s progress and become active participants in their student’s educational growth.
