PHOTOS: Simley Track Competes In Section Championships

The Spartans traveled to St Thomas University to compete in the Section 3AA track and field championships this past Tuesday and Thursday. Hurdler Emma Russ qualified for the State Championships in the 300-meter hurdles.

The girls came in twelfth place with 13 points and the boys placed fourteenth with 11 points. 15 teams competed from all over the metro. Prior Lake received top honors for the girls with 129 points, while Apple Valley won in the boys meet with 107 points.

Here are some other girls highlights:

• Margie Freed placed 9th in the 3,200-meter run.
• 4th place for the 4x400 meter relay team. Kersten Schwanz, Rachel Rud, Kristen Mertens, and Emma Russ.
• Mariah Hoffman placed 9th in the discus.

Here are some of the boys highlights:

• Eric Johnston placed 8th in the 100 meter dash and 7th in the 200 meter dash.
• Max Wellens placed 6th in the 1600 meter run.
• Victor Velasquez placed 8th in the 300 meter hurdles.
• Mykar Groves placed 5th in the shot put.
