Sports Roundup: Dec. 23

Simley High School sports teams have competed throughout the past week. See how they did.

Boys basketball: After scored in game the team played two games, losing and then winning.

On Dec. 20 the team lost 71-78 to Humboldt. John Spillane contributed 26 points to the game.

In the win over Farmington on Dec. 22 the final score was 87-70. Aaron Gartner was the top scorer for the team with 22 points.

The next game is on Dec. 27 in a tournament.

Girls basketball: The team is still undefeated after two games this week.

On Dec. 13 the game against St. Anthony was a close one – 65 to 67. Alexis Boyd-Lockett put 17 points on the board while Abby Kain and Shauna Horsch each contributed 14 points.

The home game on Dec. 22 against East Ridge ended with Simley top with 54-42. At the half it was a close 22-19. But the team pulled ahead with 18 points from Boyd-Lockett alone and another 12 from Kylie Brown.

Their next game is on Jan. 3 against North St. Paul.

Boys Hockey: With help from a comeback four goals in the third period the hockey team beat St. Paul Johnson in overtime 7-6.

Pat Short scored the first goal in the first period and Brandon Reitberger tied the game at 2 each in the second period. But St. Paul answered with three of their own in a row before Short scored again and Reitberger got a hat trick with two more in the third followed by a goal of Ben Rauschnot. At 13:48 in the third St. Paul tied the game. In overtime Reitberger scored again 2:11 into the extra minutes for the win.

The team is 5-1 with the next game against River Falls tonight – Dec. 23.

Girls Hockey: The girls hockey team is 6-4 on the season after a  2-3 win over Holy Family/Waconia on Dec. 20.

It was Laken Muller’s goal in the third period  that got the win for the Spartans. Mackenzie Molnar and Jessica Pate each had a goal in the second period.

Dance: The dance team took on Dec. 22 at Hill-Murray.

The varsity team won the overall jazz division title.

Henry Sibley took home the overall title.

Swimming and diving: The boys swimming and diving team t team on Dec. 20 with a final score of 106-77.
