Sports Roundup: Feb. 6, 2012

Catch up with some of your favorite Simley High School athletic teams.

Boys swimming and diving: The team finished second at the Hibbing Invitational on Feb. 4. Individual medal winners were: Tim Luhr took sixth in the 200 freestroke and fifth in the 500 freestroke; Michael Greene took fifth in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 100 breaststroke; Nathan Stone took third in 1-meter diving; Ebenezer Ojo took sixth in the 1-meter diving; Ryan Kimble took sixth in the 500 freestyle; Carter Lange took eighth in the 100 breaststroke and first the 1-meter diving; and Alec Kandt was the champion in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.

The team of Parker Tangen, Michael Ausen, Luhr and Kandt took second in the 200 Free Relay; and the team of Ausen, Luhr, Kimble and Kandt took third in the 400 free relay. 

Kandt broke the Classic Suburban record in the 200 free on Feb. 2.

Wrestling: In the Classic Suburban Conference Championship Tournament in Feb. 4 at Tartan High School, many members of the Simley wrestling team were crowned conference champions and named to the all-conference team.

Friday, Feb. 10 is senior night and a meet against St. Michael-Albertville.

Girls Hockey: The girls hockey team lost both of it's games last week. Both games were section and conference match ups.

On Jan. 31 the team fell 8-0 to South St. Paul. Then in a close game on Feb. 3 the Spartans fell to Henry Sibley 4-3.

13-9-2 is the over all record and the next game is on Feb. 8 at Red Wing.

Boys Hockey: The team went 1-1 in last weeks' games.

On Feb. 4 against Dodge Center the team won 4-0. Brandon Reitberger, Gage Gustafson each had a goal and Will Knopik pitched in two in the final period.

In the game against conference leaders Hill-Murray on Feb. 3 the Spartans lost 11-3.

The next game in on Feb. 8 against North St. Paul.

Girls Basketball: Last week the Spartans won a game and lost a game.

The team was victorious over Mahtomedi on Jan. 31 55-44. Abby Kain tossed in 22 and Shauna Horsch added 13.

On Feb. 3 the results weren't as favorable as the team fell to North St. Paul 60-54.

Overall the team is 16-4 and the next game is against Richfield on Feb. 7.

Boys Basketball: Add two to the lose column for the boys basketball team. The team fell to Mahtomedi 80-67 on Jan. 31.

On Feb. 2 the game went into overtime and ended in North St. Paul's favor 77-75. Connor Wells was Simley's high scorer with 22 of his own followed by John Spillane with 17 and 15 more from Aaron Gartner.

Feb. 10 is the next game and will be against Henry Sibley. The team's overall record is 6-13.
