VIDEO: Robots Run Rampant in Simley High School

25 Robotics Clubs from around the state met on Saturday afternoon in the Simley High School Cafeteria as part of Simley's Robotics Club Invitational.

More than two dozen robots, built by high school students from around the state, went head-to-head in a handbuilt arena in the Simley High School cafeteria on Saturday afternoon.

The invitational, hosted by the Simley High School Robotics Club, is a testing ground for Robotics Clubs — many of whom will compete in regional qualifying meets later this year. For six weeks during the winter, the clubs construct complex robots to accomplish a single, pre-determined task. This year, the student-built robots entering must attempt to lift several inner tubes onto a rack. As part of a secondary challenge, the teams can build another “mini-bot,” which must scale a 12-foot pole.

The Simley Robotics Club will participate in two regional competitions — one in Duluth on March 10-12, and one in Minneapolis from March 31 to April 2.
