A Warm Day for a Round of Disc Golf

Saturday's North Valley Open in Inver Grove Heights attracted roughly 40 participants.

Competitors in Saturday’s North Valley Open disc golf tournament shared a common message: “It’s warm.”

The 40 or so participants in the event—staged at Inver Grove Heights’ —certainly broke a sweat while playing on the sunny and breezy 70-degree day.

While novices to disc golf might have considered Saturday’s weather—more typical of late May than mid April—to be ideal for outdoor activities, event organizer Tim Gill said the conditions probably held down participant numbers. The North Valley Open usually attracts twice the number of golfers.

“When the weather gets like this, people have other things to do,” said Gill, CEO of Twin Cities-based Par 72 Disc Golf professional course design. “You have to remember that we’ve held this tournament in the snow.”

Golf played two 18-hole rounds in Saturday’s Minnesota Frisbee Association-sanctioned event. Prize money was awarded for top finishers in a number of categories.
