Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival: Riders From Inver Grove and Mendota Heights Record Strong Results

The 30th Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival—something like the Boston Marathon for Midwest bicyclists—took place over the weekend in Cable, Wis.

The race started with 27 riders in 1983. This year, 1,850 riders rode the 40 miles to finish at Telemark Resort. Another 900 riders started concurrently in downtown Cable in the 16-mile Short & Fat and also finish at Telemark.

  • Desta Meyer, 33, of Inver Grove Heights, finished 10 out of 22 among women riders in the 30-34 age group.
  • Toby Schifsky, 46, of Mendota Heights, finished 81 out of 289 among men riders in the 45-49 age group.
  • Rodney Toogood, 49, of Mendota Heights, finished 99 out of 289 among men riders in the 45-49 age group.
  • William Johnston, 49, of Mendota Heights, finished 163 out of 289 among men riders in the 45-49 age group.
  • Gregory Merz, 52, of Mendota Heights, finished 179 out of 199 among men riders in the 50-54 age group.
