Former Simley Softball Player Gets Her Own "Day"

Inver Grove Heights Mayor George Tourville declared last Saturday "Kristen Coonrod Day."

A former Simley High School softball player had her day in the limelight last Saturday, when she was honored by the city of Inver Grove Heights and the University of Minnesota.

Inver Grove Heights Mayor George Tourville declared last Saturday "Kristen Coonrod Day" in honor of Coonrod, who graduated from Simley last year and now plays for the University of Minnesota softball team.

At a Gophers softball game on Saturday, Coonrod was presented with a certificate signed by Tourville, according to Simley's Assistant Softball Coach Dan Gaisbauer. Softball Coach Kelly Darrow and members of the softball team attended the game to present Coonrod with the award. The presentation was done in conjunction with the University of Minnesota's "Hometown Day" — which recognizes college athletes.
