Friday Football Preview: Simley vs. Mahtomedi

Simley faces second straight Classic Suburban power when they travel to Mahtomedi Friday night.

Simley (0-1 overall, 0-1 in the Classic Suburban Conference) vs. Mahtomedi (1-0 overall, 1-0 Classic Suburban Conference)

PLAYMAKERS

  • Nick Wanzek (Simley–Quarterback): Led the team in rushing in season opener.
  • Matt Kadrlik (Simley–Center/defensive end) A starter since he was a freshman, Kadrlik plays both sides of the field and has excellent strength. Outstanding heavyweight wrestler.
  • Ben McDonald (Mahtomedi–Running Back) The KARE-11 preseason All-Metro selection. Getting recruiting looks from Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
  • Luke Lindahl (Mahtomedi–Linebacker) A starting linebacker who splits carries at running back. He is a big, strong back with good speed.

SPARTANS WIN IF...
They can control the ball and keep the powerful Zephyr offense off the field. Simley drew a tough schedule facing conference powers St. Thomas and Mahtomedi in their first two games of the season.

ZEPHYRS WIN IF...
They can adjust to their new surroundings. The George Smith Field got a much-needed upgrade with new synthetic turf, a new track, new bleachers and concession stand. This is their home opener.
