Archery classes are part of the "Summer 2011 Programs" conducted by the Parks and Recreation department.

The hockey rink at Groveland Park is the perfect setup for a youth archery class hosted by the Inver Grove Heights Parks and Recreation Department. Classes are held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday evening. The program is for kids between the ages of 9 to 18.

Classes are taught by NADA (National Alliance for the Development of Archery) certified instructors. Instructor Kristian Seibert was there this past Thursday evening passing along his knowledge of the sport. He starts each class by reviewing the basics and making sure everyone knows the importance of safety.

There were 10 kids participating on Thursday. They were taking aim at the targets about 25-30 feet away. Much of the class was spent shooting at a traditional bulls-eye targets, before participants moved on to balloon targets. As the evening went on you could hear the kids talking about how many times they hit the target and of course the occasional balloon popping, which got everyone excited.
