PHOTOS: Simley Girls Hockey Shut Out By South St. Paul
The Simley girls' hockey team was knocked out of the Section 4A tournament after losing 7-0 to the South St. Paul Packers on Tuesday night.
It was a tough night for the Simley girl’s hockey team.
The Spartans were dismantled in the Section 4A semifinals by South St. Paul, losing 7-0 against the Packers on Tuesday night at St. Thomas Academy.
South St. Paul scored early and was able to maintain its offensive momentum throughout the game. In the first period alone, the Packers racked up five goals, including three in the first seven minutes of the game. The Packers also added a shorthanded goal at the 7:52 mark and a power play goal at 13:29 to end the period. In the first period, the Packers outshot Simley 12-1.
The second period continued to cause more trouble for the Spartans, who gave up 18 more shots on goal and two more short-handed goals. Simley had 5 shots on the period, making the total shot count 30 to 6 in favor of the Packers after two periods.

In the final period Simley stabilized, preventing the Packers from adding to their lead. Simley had a few more chances to get on the scoreboard, but the team's offense was shut down each time by South St. Paul goalie Katie Felton.
In the end, South St. Paul outshot Simley 33-11. The Packers will face the Totino Grace Eagles Friday night in the Section 4A finals.
