The postseason was cruel to the Simley softball team last week, while the Spartans boys lacrosse team enters the postseason on Wednesday still in search of its first victory this spring.

A three-run seventh-inning rally earned the Simley softball team extra innings at Apple Valley in the Section 3AAA Tournament opener on May 19, but it could not get the Spartans the victory.

The host Eagles pushed across a lone victorious run in the ninth inning to end Simley's season in heart-breaking fashion as the Spartans closed the spring with an 8-13 overall record.

After an 0-12 regular season, the Simley boys lacrosse team opens the Section 3 playoffs at 5pm Wednesday at Burnsville.

Kellen Asmundson leads the Spartans with 14 goals, followed by Tony Armstrong's eight goals and Bill Haggerty's six tallies.

Simley holds the 13th seed for the postseason, with Burnsville seeded fourth.

Baseball: Spartans Win Third Game Of Season

The Simley baseball team won its third game of the season on May 19, claiming a 5-1 victory against visiting Classic Suburban Conference opponent South St. Paul.

Brody Schintz pitched the Spartans to the win with a complete game four-hitter, striking out seven Packers.

Michael Steinhoff and Joshua Ketchmark each drove in two runs apiece as Simley collected seven hits on the afternoon.

Boys Golf: Simley Second At Manitou Ridge

The Simley boys golf team finished second in a Classic Suburban meet at Manitou Ridge Golf Course on May 19, tallying a score of 162. Individual results were not available.
