Sports Roundup: Simley Boys Swim Team Stay Undefeated

Thursday's victory over Tartan was a warmup to Saturday's Spartan Invitational at The Grove.

The undefeated Simley High boys swimming and diving team warmed up for Saturday’s Spartan Invitational with a 99-82 victory over Tartan Thursday at The Grove.

Individual winners for the Spartans, 3-0 on the season, were Alec Kandt, in the 200 I.M. and 100 back; Carter Lange, 1-meter diving; Mike Ausen, 100 free; and Michael Greene, 100 breaststroke.

The team of Kandt, Ausen, Greene and Tim Luhr won the 200 medley relay, and the team of Parker Tangen, Dan Hardgrave, Austin Olson and Josh Froyd won the 200 Free Relay.

In addition to host Simley, the Spartan invitational will feature Henry Sibley, St. Paul Central, Orono and Hudson (WI). Diving starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by swimming at 1 p.m.

Pat Short scored with less than two minutes remaining to lift Simley to a 4-3 victory over Spring Lake Park Thursday night.

The victory was the eighth in the row for the Spartans, who improved their record to 10-2 overall. They stand at 0-1 in the Classic Suburban Conference standings.

Simley will host Irondale at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

GYMNASTICS

Simley gymnastics team lost to Tartan, 124.925-116.625, Thursday.

Leading Simley were Sarah Birkelo, who finished second on beam, floor and all-around, and third on the vault; and Emily, Dittel, who placed third on the floor.

Simley will host Henry Sibley Jan. 12.
