Simley Wrestling Team Back in Action After Rare Dual Match Loss

The Spartans fell to a tough St. Michael-Albertville squad, 41-21, on Friday night. It was a battle of nationally ranked squads.

The Simley High wrestling team lost to a tough St. Michael-Albertville squad, 41-21, in a battle of nationally ranked squads Friday night.

The defeat was the first in a dual match for the defending state champion Spartans since Dec. 30, 2011, when they fell to Archbishop Moeller (OH) and St. Paris Graham (OH) during The Clash National High School Wrestling Duals in Rochester.

Simley got back on the mat this morning at the Prior Lake Duals. As of 11:35 a.m., the Spartans already had defeated Farmington, 54-15, and Tri-City United/Cleveland, 68-12. That improved their record to 7-1.

Next week, Simley will host a triangular meet with Richfield/Edina and North on Thursday and take part in the Minnesota Christmas Tournament in Rochester on Friday and Saturday.
