Simley's Briguet Plans to Compete at College Level

Former Simley High School athlete Nate Briguet will be swimming at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next year.

Editor's Note: This is a first in a series of profiles of  2011 Simley High School graduates who will be competing in college sports next year.

Favorite Memory of Simley Sports: "The swim meet against undefeated St. Thomas Academy my junior year of high school when it came down to the final relay of the meet and we beat them to win the meet and the conference championship!"

Accomplishments: Nate Briguet, the 2011 Simley Male Athlete of the Year, has a laundry list of outstanding athletic accomplishments. A three-sport athlete, Briguet competed in football, swimming and baseball while at Simley. He excelled in swimming and will be competing for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next season.

Among Briguet's accomplishments: He was an all-conference honorable mention baseball player. In 2011, he placed fourth at state in the 100 freestyle and 6th in the 50 freestyle. He also participated on the Spartans' 200 freestyle relay team and 400 freestyle relay teams.

"Nate loves to race and win, especially for his team," said Simley coach Lynn Newton. "He was one of the best relay anchors we ever had at Simley because of his ability to find any amount of energy to win that relay for his team. He's a very hard worker and gives all out effort every time he gets in the water to race. He was a great captain and was a great friend to all his teammates. He will be missed very much next year.”
