Spartans Swept In Mid-Week Matchups

Simley baseball, softball and boys lacrosse teams all fall to Classic Suburban Conference opponents on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Continuing to battle inclement weather as much as their opponents, Simley sports teams were able to get in a portion of their schedules on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the Spartans squads that did manage to play in their respective contests  met with less-than favorable mid-week results.

Baseball: Tartan 16, Simley 7

 The Simley baseball team fell to 0-8 on the season following a 16-7 loss to visiting Tartan on Wednesday afternoon.

After taking a 5-2 lead following the second inning, the Spartans were tied 7-7 after four innings before the Titans put up a six-run fifth inning to clinch the game.

Logan Busch drove in four runs and scored once on a 2-for-4 day at the plate for Simley, with Connor Lewis scoring twice in the defeat.

The Spartans are scheduled to play at South St. Paul at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Softball: South St. Paul 5, Simley 4

The Simley softball team dropped to 1-5 on the spring with a 5-4 home loss to South St. Paul on Wednesday. 

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans are slated to play at Tartan on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse: St. Thomas Academy 17, Simley 7

A 17-7 loss at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights kept the Simley lacrosse team winless at 0-4 on the year.

Tony Armstrong leads the Spartans with five goals, with Brandon Hagen and Kellen Asmundson each scoring four times this spring.

Simley hosts Robbinsdale Cooper at 7 p.m. Thursday night in its final game of April.

Results were not available for a scheduled match between the Simley and Farmington boys tennis teams on Wednesday.
