SPORTS ROUNDUP: Simley Boys Basketball Opens Season on Tuesday

Spartan wrestlers win three matches at Prior Lake Duals.

Here is a look at recent action by Simley varsity teams:

BOYS BASKETBALL
Simley’s boys basketball team opens its season by hosting North Branch on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Simley girls basketball team has won two of its last three games and takes a 3-2 record into Tuesday’s game at Rogers.

The Spartans had their two-game win streak snapped Saturday with a 53-51 loss at St. Anthony. Abby Kain had 15 rebounds and Maya Delao dished out five assists for Simley.

GYMNASTICS
The Simley gymnastics team won its first dual meet of the year last Thursday against North St. Paul. The Spartans will host Richfield on Thursday.

BOYS HOCKEY
The Simley boys hockey team split its games last week. Its 8-1 victory over St. Paul Highland Park on Thursday was its first win of the season.

In the win over Highland Park, the Spartans were led by John Reibert, with two first-period goals, and Wylie Siegel, with goals in the first and third period. Also scoring for Simley (1-3) were Aaron Leafgren, Nick Battis, Mitch Vogel and Ken McLean.

The Spartans lost to River Falls, 5-3, on Saturday.  Reibert, Leafgren and Gage Gustafson had Simley’s goals.

Simley will visit Tartan on Thursday.

GIRLS HOCKEY
The Simley girls hockey team takes a 4-4-2 record into Tuesday’s home game agaisnt Mahtomedi.

The Spartans lost to Tartan, 5-2, on Friday. Lexi Muller and Laken Muller scored Simley’s goal in the first period.

BOYS SWIM AND DIVE
Simley’s swim and dive team opened its season by hosting the conference meet last Thursday. The Spartans will host St. Paul Central in a dual Thursday at The Grove.

WRESTLING
The Simley wrestling team rebounded from Friday’s 41-21 loss at St. Michael-Albertville with three victories at the Prior Lake Duals. Click here to read more about the Spartans.
