Sports Roundup: Simley Girls Basketball Team Improves to 13-1

The Spartans defeated Henry Sibley, 78-60, in Classic Suburban Conference play.

The Simley High girls basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Classic Suburban Conference with a 78-60 victory over Henry Sibley Tuesday night in Mendota Heights.

The Spartans, 13-1 overall and winners of four straight games, had four scorers reach double figures. Abby Kain had 20 points and was followed by Shauna Horsch with 18 points, Alex Boyd-Lockett with 13 and Aejah Lockett with 11.

Simley is off until Jan. 17, which it hosts conference opponent Tartan for a 7 p.m. game.

BOYS SWIMMING

Simley’s boys swimming and diving team had its first loss in four dual meets this season when it fell to Hudson (WI).

Recording individual wins were Alec Kandt, in the 200 IM and 100 fly; Carter Lange, 1-meter diving; and Michael Greene, 100 breaststroke. The team of Kandt, Greene, Mike Ausen and Parker Tangen won the 200 medley relay. 

The Spartans will visit North St. Paul on Thursday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Laken Muller scored a pair of goals, including the goal-ahead goal, as Simley dropped Classic Suburban Conference opponent Henry Sibley, 3-1. 

Muller broke a 1-1 tie with her first goal, at the 7-minute mark in the first period to put the Spartans—9-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference—ahead for good. She ended the scoring with a goal at 16:58 in the third period.

Jessica Pate had a goal and an assist, and Lexi Muller and Sydney Knutson added assists. Emma Tschida stopped 22 shots for Simley.

The Spartans visit Tartan at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Simley fell to 0-2 in the Classic Suburban Conference with its 85-59 home loss to Henry Sibley Tuesday night.

Aaron Gartner led three Spartan scorers in double figures with 17 points. Sam Stensgard had 13 points, and John Spillane added 12.

Simley, 4-7 overall, hosts St. Thomas Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
