Sports Roundup: Spring Season In Full Swing

Depending on the day, Simley teams bask in the sun or bundle against the cold.

Despite the wildly-varying weather conditions, the spring sports season is in full swing  as teams from Simley High School competed in a full schedule of events.

Baseball: Spartans Still Seeking First Win

A 7-5 home loss to Classic Suburban rival North St. Paul has left the Simley baseball team with a 0-5 record heading into a Thursday road game at HIll-Murray.

The Spartans have also fallen to Classic Suburban Conference foes Richfield, St. Thomas Academy and Henry Sibley, as well as non-conference Hudson, Wis.

Through the first four games of the season, Jordan Pedersen leads Simley with a .400 batting average, while Conner Lewis' five runs batted in paced the team heading into this week.

Boys Lacrosse: Simley Off To 0-2 Start

The Simley boys lacrosse team is off to a 0-2 start after losses to Irondale (12-9) and Mahtomedi (14-1) on April 13 and 14, respectively.

Cop-captain Tony Armstrong has three goals and two assists on the season, with fellow attack Kellen Asmundson logging two goals and two assists.

The Spartans host Rosemount on Thursday; both games are slated to start at 6 p.m.

Boys Tennis: Spartans Top North St. Paul

The Simley boys tennis team defeated North St. Paul, 6-1, on April 12 after opening the year with losses to Mahtomedi and St. Thomas Academy. Individual statistics and results from a scheduled match against St. Paul Johnson on April 13 was not available.

The Spartans are slated to play today and Thursday this week against Bloomington Kennedy and Henry Sibley, respectively.

Track and Field: Simley Girls Second, Boys Third In Opening Meet 

The Simley girls track team recorded 66 points to place second in a conference triangular meet at North St. Paul on April 12, while the Spartans boys took third with 19 points.

Individual results were not available.

Simley's non-conference triangular meet versus East Ridge and Trinity on Tuesday was canceled due to weather conditions.

Results from the Simley girls golf match on April 13 were not available.
