Junior Alec Kandt captured a pair of third-place finishes to lead the Simley boys swimming and diving team into the top 15 at the Minnesota Class 1A championships at the University of Minnesota last week.

Kandt was third in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke, earning 32 of his team’s 60 points in the championships, which were conducted Thursday through Saturday in Minneapolis. His times in those events were school records.

Kandt also swam the final leg of the Spartans’ 400-yard freestyle relay that placed 12th. Other members of that team were Michael Ausen, Tim Luhr and Ryan Kimble.
