UPDATED: What You Need to Know about Attending the State Wrestling Tournament

A guide to ticket prices, and match schedules for the state wrestling tournament on March 2-5.

After dismantling Mahtomedi 67-9 in the 4AA section finals last week, the Simley High School wrestling team, which is 28-2 on the season, is once again heading to state. To help parents, students and fans, Patch put together an all-you-need-to-know guide to the tournament. For more information, visit the Minnesota State High School League website.

  • The state tournament is at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul March 2 through March 5. Individual and team registration is scheduled to take place from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, March 2.
  • Team skin check and weigh in is scheduled for 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, March 2. The Class AA Team tournament takes place on Thursday, March 3. If the Spartans make it through the first rounds of the competition, they'll compete in the Class AA finals, which begin at 5pm.
  • The Spartans, who are 28-2 on the season, are scheduled to square off against Grand Rapids High School (19-8) at 9am on Thursday, March 3, in the opening round of the team competition. If they win, they will face either Foley High School or Thief River Falls/Goodridge in the semifinals.
  • The individual skin check and weigh in is scheduled for 4:15pm on Thursday, March 3. Class AA Individual competitions begin at 9am on Friday, March 4 and run throughout the day. The individual quarterfinals, semifinals and championship rounds run throughout the day on Saturday, March 5. Awards are following all matches.
  • Single session ticket prices for the state tournament are $14 for adults and $9 for students. Day passes to the tournament are $26 for adults and $17 for students.
  • Next week is finals week for Simley High School. Students who plan to attend the state tournament must have a signed permission slip from their parents and must make up all missed tests in advance. Unlike past years, the school district is not providing busing or selling tickets for the event.
