Check out our tables below for citywide results for IGH and a number of other Dakota County communities, as well as countywide results for both measures. The Voter ID amendment, if passed, would have required Minnesotans to present valid photo identification to vote. The marriage amendment would have defined marriage as between one man and one woman. Statewide, the Voter ID ballot measure failed to pass the 50 percent level of support it needed (46.34 percent with all but three Minnesota precincts' results). The marriage amendment likewise failed, with only 47.58 percent of voters casting a '…
Lawmakers are of mixed opinion on the prospects.
With a resounding victory Tuesday night—and the DFL now primed to assume control of the 2013 legislative session—a prominent state senator is suggesting incoming lawmakers could try to repeal a Minnesota law banning same-sex marriage. A prominent Southwest Minneapolis legislator, though, said it was too early to discuss legalization. Roseville state Sen. John Marty said he sees Tuesday night's election results as a changing of the guard. After just two years at the helm of the Minnesota Legislature, Republicans lost control of both the House and Senate on Tuesday night—a defeat at least some Democrats are attributing in part to the marriage and Voter ID amendments. Voters rejected both amendments by votes of 53 percent to 47 percent. …

"I can honestly report that the City of Inver Grove Heights is in good hands," Hark wrote.
I want to personally congratulate Tom Bartholomew and Jim Mueller on their election to the Inver Grove Heights City Council. Job well done! You won fair and square. I also want to thank Paul Mandell for his effort, as well. While I am disappointed I lost, I truly appreciate the fact that the City Council race did not devolve into a mud-slinging affair. We each had our issues and we all campaigned hard on our issues. The residents voted and Tom and Jim came out on top. I can honestly report that the the City of Inver Grove Heights is in good hands. Sincerely, Paul Hark
Democrats say the divisive amendments and the state shutdown may have contributed to heavy Republican losses.
After just two years at the helm of the Minnesota Legislature, Republicans lost control of both the House and Senate on Tuesday night—a defeat at least some Democrats are attributing in part to the marriage and Voter ID amendments. Going into Election Day, Republicans controlled the House 72-61 and the Senate 37-30. While votes in some districts were still being counted early Wednesday, Republicans conceded that they lost both majorities in the early morning hours, according to Twin Cities media reports. The DFL needed to pick up just four seats in the Senate and six seats in the House. "[Voters] spoke, and they spoke loudly. It was clear they wanted to see a different direction," ousted Eagan Sen. Ted Daley (R) said in an interview with…

Minnesota's voting continues until 8 p.m. Central, but some polls in the East close two hours earlier and could give first clues as to whether Obama or Romney will win.
How soon will we get results from the presidential election? Voters in Inver Grove Heights and across Minnesota have until 8 p.m. to be in line at polling places to cast their Election 2012 ballots. But voting in other key states ends almost two hours earlier. Exit polling from the East Coast could provide an early indication of whether President Obama or Mitt Romney will win the White House. The most important state likely to have the earliest results is Virginia, where polls close when clocks strike 6 p.m. in Minnesota. Voting ends 30 minutes later in swing states Ohio and North Carolina. At 7 p.m. swing states Florida, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire close their polls. Nevada and Iowa, which could be pivotal swing states, close voting …
Will elected officials count on their constituents to remember their “promises and performances” and hold them accountable? Or do they hope voters will forget?
Dear Editor: Election Day is upon us. I look for candidates whose ideals most coincide with my values and will vote those same convictions. Will they count on their constituents to remember their “Promises and Performances” and hold them accountable? Or do they hope voters will forget? Joe Atkins said, and must believe, that people won’t remember from one campaign cycle to the next. However, some of us do. We continue to pay for his “Performances AND his Promises.” For example: As mayor, Atkins credits himself for building amenities “with no taxpayer dollars.” Despite cost cuts, the VMCC/Aquatic Center still loses nearly $500,000/year. Joe uses Target as an example of “streamlining tax codes and regulation.” Target started building and …

Dear Editor: Residents in Inver Grove Heights have the opportunity to put a great leader on the City Council on Tuesday. Paul Mandell has served our community in a variety of capacities - as a school board member, Planning Commission member and a Housing Committee member. Paul thanks for running and best of luck. We hope to see you running again. If I had my way all four running on this ballot would have been added to the council. We need new people and new ideas. You had my vote, but unfortunately it didn't help. Thanks for your efforts and for those of Mandell and congrats to Mueller and Bartholomew, new faces are welcome!   more ›
