Incumbent Republican John Kline defeated Democrat Mike Obermueller by more than 8 points to keep his seat in congress.
Rep. John Kline (R-Lakeville) is going back to Washington, D.C. Kline defeated Democratic challenger Mike Obermueller by more than 8 points on Nov. 6. With each of the 291 precincts reporting, Kline received 193,587 votes, or 54.01 percent of the total votes cast. Obermueller received 164,335, or 45.85 percent. Minnesota's voting continues until 8 p.m. Central, but some polls in the East close two hours earlier and could give first clues as to whether Obama or Romney will win.
How soon will we get results from the presidential election? Voters in Inver Grove Heights and across Minnesota have until 8 p.m. to be in line at polling places to cast their Election 2012 ballots. But voting in other key states ends almost two hours earlier. Exit polling from the East Coast could provide an early indication of whether President Obama or Mitt Romney will win the White House. The most important state likely to have the earliest results is Virginia, where polls close when clocks strike 6 p.m. in Minnesota. Voting ends 30 minutes later in swing states Ohio and North Carolina. At 7 p.m. swing states Florida, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire close their polls. Challengers Tom Begich, Mark Westpfahl and Allen Gerber all won election to the Inver Grove Heights School Board on Tuesday night.
There will be plenty of fresh faces on the School District 199 School Board next year. Challengers Tom Begich, Mark Westpfahl and Allen Gerber all won election to the board on Tuesday night, ousting incumbents and eight-year board veterans Mickey Difronzo and Keri Myran. Another incumbent, Bridget Sutton, held onto her seat after garnering 1,381 votes, or roughly 15 percent of the vote. A fourth incumbent, Phil Prokopowicz, chose not to run for re-election this year. Local voters also voted to renew an operating levy that generates roughly $480 in per pupil funding annual for local schools.
