Inver Grove Heights Mayor, Council Members to Take Oath of Office Today

George Tourville will again be sworn in as mayor, and Tom Bartholomew and Jim Mueller will officially join the council.

Tourville, who took his first oath of office as a council member in 1981, will be sworn in for another two-year mayoral term. Taking their first oaths of elected office in the city will be Tom Bartholomew and Jim Mueller. Bartholomew is the former chair of the city’s planning commission, and Mueller formerly served on the planning and parks commissions. Their terms expire in 2016. Mayor Minute: Tourville on Standoff with Armed IGH Man

Mayor George Tourville thanked the police department for safely resolving a standoff with an armed Inver Grove Heights man.

Mayor George Tourville spoke with Inver Grove Heights Patch about the six-hour, late December standoff between police and an armed, possibly suicidal man who holed up in a home on the 8000 block of Claymore Avenue East. Tourville thanked the city's police department for safely resolving the situation.

Tourville also shared good news about his personal health, plugging the Movember prostate-awareness event in the process.

Mayor George Tourville spoke about Inver Grove Heights' Veterans Day celebration.

Inver Grove Heights mayor George Tourville spoke about the city's Veterans Day celebration at the Veterans Memorial Community Center, which included appearances by Governor Dayton and both of Minnesota senators. "We truly appreciate the honor of being able to host the reception of the state of Minnesota for Veterans Day," he said. Tourville also spoke about the strong turnout in Inver Grove Heights on election day.

Mayor Matters: Farmers' Market and Gun Safety Classes

Patch grabs a couple minutes with Inver Grove Heights mayor George Tourville.

In the latest installation of Mayor Matters, mayor George Tourville discusses the St. Paul Farmers' Market, which opens at 3 p.m. on June 21 at the Veterans Memorial Community Center parking lot. The mayor also addresses the much-discussed proposed DNR-sponsored firearms safety program, which, if approved by city council, would require changing a city ordinance to allow residents to discharge firearms within city limits. Mayor Tourville closes this week's edition by reminding high school students and recent graduates not to drink and drive or text and drive while attending graduation parties and enjoying the summer.
