Hundreds Attend Holiday on Main Street

The Inver Grove Heights celebration featured free food, fun and games, music and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

It didn’t look a lot like Christmas outside Veterans Memorial Community Center Saturday afternoon, with the morning’s flurries melting away and a youngster or two performing stunts at the skateboard park. But walk inside, and there was a wonderland of Christmas decorations, holidays crafts and games, music and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus awaiting you. Hundreds of residents attended Inver Grove Heights’ annual Holiday on Main Street celebration Saturday afternoon. Scores of residents were lined up and prepared to celebrate the season before doors opened at 2 p.m. And, those who drove to the event were greeted with a overflowing parking lot in front of the community center. Patch Poll: Are You Dreaming of a Brown Christmas?

This year's unseasonably mild weather might mean Inver Grove Heights and the rest of the Twin Cities metropolitan area will miss out on a white Christmas.

If you are looking forward to a white Christmas, there’s always next year. Local weather forecasters say the prospects of a white Christmas—which is defined as having at least an inch of snow on the ground on Dec. 25—are looking bleak at this moment. That means we probably are heading for a brown Christmas in Inver Grove Heights and elsewhere in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, something that happens about 28 percent of the time, according to Paul Douglas’ weather blog Thursday on startribune.com. Douglas is predicting that high temperatures on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be 30 to 35 degrees, which is above average for this time of year. Dave Dahl, on kstp.com, isn’t optimistic about the chances of a white Christmas, either. He …

Holiday on Main Street Scheduled for Dec. 17

The city's annual holiday party will hit Veterans Memorial Community Center on Saturday afternoon.

Live music, face painting, kids games, toy giveaways and a visit from Santa Claus. You can find them all at one place this weekend: The city's Holiday on Main Street party from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Community Center. The event is the capstone of the city's holiday celebrations this weekend, which include trolley rides, a "Skate with Santa" event and more. Admission at Holiday on Main Street is free.
