I hear on the scanner quite often IGH/WSP departments helping each other, it really isn't that uncommon ... It's pretty rare to hear St. Paul cross over to help, more the police than the fire dept. - don't know why.   more ›

Inver Grove Heights Week in Review Aug. 8-14

Patch looks back on the events, people and issues that made the headlines last week.

More than 25 firefighters from three departments spent four hours battling a house fire that began early last Sunday. The home, on Rich Valley Boulevard, was unoccupied when the fire began. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. On a related note, the Inver Grove Heights Fire Department faces as much as $1 million in equipment needs over the next several years, according to Fire Chief Judy Thill. The department is considering the purchase of a fire/rescue truck, a river rescue boat and other gear for firefighters. Simley High School graduate Eric Rud is heading back to Division I college hockey. UPDATED: Cause of House Fire Still Under Investigation

Inver Grove Heights fire crews responded early Sunday morning to a house fire on Rich Valley Boulevard.

A house fire severely damaged a home in southern Inver Grove Heights on Sunday morning. The Inver Grove Heights Fire Department and fire fighters from Eagan and Rosemount responded to the fire at 11278 Rich Valley Boulevard just before 4 a.m. on Sunday morning. On Monday morning, a portion of the home's roof was caved in, and scorch marks had blackened the exterior of the home. No one was home at the time of the blaze, but the home was a total loss, according to Fire Chief Judy Thill. Thill characterized the fight to put out the fire as a "defensive attack", and said the house was fully engulfed by the time fire crews arrived. For that reason, Thill said, the department concentrated on making sure the flames didn't spread to any nearby …

Inver Grove Heights Week In Review May 9 Through May 15

Patch looks back on the events, people and issues that made the headlines last week.

Inver Grove Heights Patch kicked off the week with a profile of the Destination ImagiNation (DI) program in Inver Grove Heights. This year, a record number of DI teams were invited to the Global Finals competition at the end of May in Knoxville, Tenn. — a contest that pits successful DI teams against teams from Germany, China and Poland, among other nations. On Monday, the Inver Grove Heights City Council unanimously decided to sue A&W Restaurants, Inc. and Yum! Brands, Inc., franchisors whom the city alleges gave both city staff and the franchisee of a failed A&W Restaurant in Inver Grove Heights misleading revenue projections for the restaurant before the business even opened. Thanks to a partnership between Inver Hills Community College…

UPDATED: Fire Strikes Twice at Inver Grove Heights Home

Fire crews extinguished the blaze early on Wednesday morning, but the flames reignited, causing a second emergency response.

Hours after fire crews extinguished an overnight blaze at an Inver Grove Heights home, firefighters from three separate departments were called back to the same residence to put out the fire a second time. The Inver Grove Heights Fire Department, along with firefighters from three other neighboring departments, originally responded late Tuesday night to the house fire — which was located on the 10000 block of Barnes Way. One man suffered burns to his arms and face and was later transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The firefighters left around 5am this morning, but Inver Grove Heights Fire Chief Judy Thill believes that embers that went undiscovered during the first fire may have caused the flames at the home to rekindle. The Inver …

Hi Melissa~ According to Inver Grove Heights Fire Chief Judy Thill, the IGH Fire Department does not charge homeowners or fire victims a "per visit" fee for its services, nor do any neighboring fire departments. The cost to maintain the IGH Fire Department is paid for through local tax dollars. I'm still trying to find out whether there is collection fund for the family. As soon as I get an …   more ›
