PHOTOS: Try Hockey Free at VMCC

For kids who think they might be interested but have never played, all equipment will be provided.

(Nov. 8) Thanks to Jane Difronzo for all the great pictures! **** (Nov. 2) The Inver Grove Heights Hockey Association (IGHHA) is hosting a "Try Hockey Free" event on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 12-2:15 p.m. The event is being held at the Veteran's Memorial Community Center and is targeted at kids aged 5-9 years old.  "Hockey develops skills on the ice that build a foundation for a lifetime," IGHHA Communications Coordinator Gene Brown told Patch. "Hockey promotes confidence, pride, focus and responsibility with an emphasis on fun. Hockey is a game to be played and enjoyed for life."  For kids who think they might be interested but have never played, don't worry. "Simply show up, equipment will be provided!" Brown said.

Ex-Hockey Association Employee Charged with Theft

Shelle Anne Radant is accused of stealing more than $1,000 from the Inver Grove Heights Hockey Association.

An Inver Grove Heights woman who worked as the Inver Grove Heights Hockey Association’s gambling manager has been charged with theft after authorities say she stole more than $1,000 from the organization. Shelle Anne Radant, 35, faces a felony charge of theft, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.  Radant is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge July 25 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings. According to the criminal complaint, the Minnesota Alcohol Gambling Enforcement Division received a complaint in June 2009 from the Gambling Control Board about shortages in bingo proceeds for the hockey association. This is an unfortunate development if the accusations are true. The alleged person is a good person and it's too bad this has to happen. Hopefully this doesn't tarnish her forever and she and family can move on. The hockey association is in dire straits which is also unfortunate. Hopefully this all gets resolved with as little damage as possible. I   more ›
