With the death of Osama bin Laden dominating headlines Sunday night, there might be no more appropriate time than now to thank any veterans in your life — and to remember those who sacrificed their lives for this country. Bin Laden's death clearly illustrates the danger that American military personnel routinely face, as U.S forces reportedly stormed a Pakistani mansion and killed the terrorist leader, fending off gunfire during the mission. There was plenty of breaking news in Inver Grove Heights this week. On Tuesday, St. Paul-based Paster Enterprises announced that they purchased the 69,000-square-foot Cahill Plaza shopping center. The company closed the deal for Cahill Plaza on April 21, according to a press release issued. A 28-year-old Inver Grove Heights man was charged on Tuesday with third-degree murder, after police say his girlfriend overdosed on the drugs he purchased for her. If he is convicted on the third-degree murder charge, Dennis James Rivers faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. U.S. Army Specialist and Inver Grove Heights native Joseph Kennedy was buried late Thursday morning at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Kennedy, who graduated from Simley High School, was killed on April 15 in Afghanistan when his unit came under small arms fire by insurgents. Hundreds of community members and Patriot Guard Riders attended his funeral Thursday morning at the Church of St. Patrick in Inver Grove Heights. The funeral procession left the church around 11am, and passed through the city on its way to Fort Snelling.
