The aide fired after an affair with Senate Majority Leader and St. Michael area Sen. Amy Koch is suing the Minnesota Senate.
Nearly 10 months after the story broke of his alleged affair–now confirmed–with Buffalo native and former Sen. Amy Koch, aide Michael Brodkorb is suing the Minnesota Senate. The senior staffer, a direct report to then-Sen. Majority Leader Koch, filed the suit late Monday. According to the Associated Press, Brodkorb is seeking damages, stating in his lawsuit he was treated unfairly and discriminated against because female employees involved in similar relationships didn't lose their jobs. Brodkorb, 38, was fired in December 2011. Koch stepped down from her role as majority leader, under pressure from her peers. Later, she decided she would not run for Senate in what is now District 29. Her longtime colleague, former Rep. Bruce Anderson, …

Sen. Jim Metzen is listed as a co-author on a bill that would permit slot machines at two horse racing tracks in Minnesota.
District 39 Sen. Jim Metzen (DFL) believes that the state, faced with a $5 billion deficit, needs every source of revenue it can get. Which is why Metzen has cast his support behind a Republican-backed bill to allow video slot machines at two horse tracks in Minnesota — Canterbury Park in Shakopee and Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus. If passed, the measure could generate $250 million to $500 million annually, Metzen said, some of which would be funneled back into state funds. Proposed by District 29 Sen. David Senjem (R) and introduced on March 25, the bill creates an account called the "Minnesota Future Fund" and dictates that a portion of the money generated by slot machines at the horse tracks be deposited in the fund.
