All Clear As Snow Starts Melting

Last night’s storm did what it promised, and dumped 3 inches of snow on the region. Still, nobody’s impressed.

Inver Grove Heights woke up 2-3 inches of wet, heavy snow this morning. It’s a pain to shovel, even if it’s only a little bit, but nothing major for Minnesota standards. According to Police Lt. Sean Folmar, Inver Grove Heights roads were “Pretty much clear” during this morning’s commute. As temperatures climbed back above freezing and salt did its work, there were no significant problems at the major roads around town, although Folmar did warn about icy spots at some intersections and side streets. No further problems are expected today, said Folmar. The same was true in the rest of the metro. The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s website showed traffic flowing normally, and no major accidents.    Temperatures will hit the upper 30s…

From Alligator Cracks to Potholes: Street Repair 101

The city of Inver Grove Heights has 150 miles of road. With such an extensive road system, how does the city evaluate and repair its streets?

It’s no small task to maintain the 150 miles of road in Inver Grove Heights. Already this year, the city plans to undertake an extensive street reconstruction project in the South Grove neighborhood of Inver Grove Heights, which will likely include the complete reconstruction of portions of Dawn Avenue East, 69th Street E., Craig Avenue E. Crosby Avenue E. and several other streets. While the South Grove project is likely the largest street project the city will undertake in 2011, it’s hardly the last. The city and the council will begin identifying other priority street projects later this spring, Public Works Director Scott Thureen said.
