PHOTOS: Tuesday Night Softball At Rich Valley Athletic Complex

Some teams played double- and triple-headers at Rich Valley Athletic Complex.

The Tuesday men's softball league was in full swing this past Tuesday evening at Rich Valley Athletic Complex. A total of 10 teams played games in a span of three hours, from 7-10 p.m. Three teams  played double-headers and two teams played triple-headers. Season Ends For Simley Softball

Spartans Fall In Nine Innings At Apple Valley on May 19.

The postseason was cruel to the Simley softball team last week, while the Spartans boys lacrosse team enters the postseason on Wednesday still in search of its first victory this spring. Softball: Simley Season Ends In Section 3AAA Opener A three-run seventh-inning rally earned the Simley softball team extra innings at Apple Valley in the Section 3AAA Tournament opener on May 19, but it could not get the Spartans the victory. The host Eagles pushed across a lone victorious run in the ninth inning to end Simley's season in heart-breaking fashion as the Spartans closed the spring with an 8-13 overall record. Spartans Boys Lacrosse Nears End Of Regular Season

Simley still searching for first win with one game to go before playoffs.

The Simley boys lacrosse team is still searching for its first victory with just one game remaining in its regular season schedule as the spring sports campaign transitions into playoff time. Boys Lacrosse: Spartans Drop Tuesday, Wednesday Matchups Back-to-back losses against St. Thomas and  Rochester Century on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, dropped the Simley boys lacrosse team to 0-11 on the season with one game remaining on its regular-season docket. The Spartans will play at Hill-Murray on Friday at 6pm in its final pre-playoff contest, with the section tournament scheduled to begin on May 25. Kellen Asmundson leads Simley with 14 goals and eight assists, while Tony Armstrong has recorded seven goals and eight assists so far …

Several Spartans Squads Make Final Pre-Playoff Pushes

Spring sports season enters seventh week with playoffs just around the corner.

The spring sports season entered its seventh week as several Simley High School squads now prepare for the commencement of the postseason. Baseball: Bad Start To Week For Simley A 16-5 loss to visiting Classic Suburban Conference rival Mahtomedi on Monday dropped the Simley baseball team to 2-15 overall and 1-13 in the circuit. Brody Schintz leads the Spartans with a .405 batting average; Jordan Pedersen's 10 runs batted paces the club, as does Josh Ketchmark, who has nine runs scored. Simley also fell 19-2 to Hill-Murray last Thursday and now prepares to play at Tartan on Wednesday. Local Athletes Dodge Raindrops For Mid-Week Matchups

Simley High School sports teams were able to get in almost all their contests on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Despite playing under the threat of thunderstorms on both Tuesday and Wednesday, Simley High School sports teams both managed to get in nearly the entirety of their mid-week schedules. Baseball: Washburn 13, Simley 1 A 13-1 loss to visiting Minneapolis Washburn on Wednesday dropped the Simley baseball team to 2-13 overall this season. Joshua Ketchmark drove in T.J. Stone with the Spartans' lone run of the game in the fifth inning; Simley had six hits total, with Brody Schintz claiming two of them. Spartans Inch Closer To Postseason

Simley High School is beginning to see the end of the regular season.

The spring sports campaign pushed closer to its conclusion as Simley sports squads continued to jostle for preferred sectional seeding with contests book-ending the weekend. Baseball: Simley Claims First Two Victories The Simley baseball team claimed its first two wins of the season to close out last week, topping Henry Sibley by a 10-8 score for its initial Classic Suburban Conference victory on Thursday before topping St. Croix Lutheran 10-4 in a non-conference game on Friday. The Spartans nearly made it three-straight on Monday, yet fell 1-0 at North St. Paul. Simley Scores Three in the Seventh Inning to Drop Henry Sibley

The Simley Spartans softball team made it a season after defeating their Mendota Heights rivals 4-1 on Thursday.

Simley High School's softball team saved the best for last Thursday, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Henry Sibley High School 4-1 in a match in Mendota Heights. In a contest that bore little resemblence to the Spartans' first game against Henry Sibley this season (a 10-9 Simley win on April 18), both teams showed off improved pitching and defense. But neither managed much offense until the Spartans started connecting in the final inning. Simley scored one run in the top of the second and Henry Sibley answered with a run in the third to tie the game at 1-all. That’s where the score still stood until the final inning. Spartans Girls Golf, Softball Start May Off Right

Jessica Pate leads Simley girls golf team to conference victory on Monday as softball team claims second victory of year.

A pair of Simley girls sports teams got the week started off right with victories as the Spartans entered the second month of the spring season on Monday. Girls Golf: Pate Earns Co-Medalist Honors In Simley Win Jessica Pate earned co-medalist honors with a round of 50 to lead the Simley High School girls golf team to a win in a Classic Suburban Conference meet at Mendakota Golf Club on Monday. The Spartans carded a round of 221. Softball: Simley Wins Second Game Of Season The Simley softball team won its second game of the season on Monday, 8-4, against visiting Mahtomedi on Monday. Spartans Swept In Mid-Week Matchups

Simley baseball, softball and boys lacrosse teams all fall to Classic Suburban Conference opponents on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Continuing to battle inclement weather as much as their opponents, Simley sports teams were able to get in a portion of their schedules on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the Spartans squads that did manage to play in their respective contests  met with less-than favorable mid-week results. Baseball: Tartan 16, Simley 7  The Simley baseball team fell to 0-8 on the season following a 16-7 loss to visiting Tartan on Wednesday afternoon. After taking a 5-2 lead following the second inning, the Spartans were tied 7-7 after four innings before the Titans put up a six-run fifth inning to clinch the game. Logan Busch drove in four runs and scored once on a 2-for-4 day at the plate for Simley, with Connor Lewis scoring twice in the defeat. The …

Simley Softballers Challenge Hill-Murray Before Falling

The Spartans took 4-3 third-inning lead over the visiting Pioneers, but could not hold the advantage before losing 11-7.

The Simley softball team made a game of it, but in the end came up short for the fourth time in five games with a hard-fought 11-7 loss to visiting Hill-Murray in a Classic Suburban Conference contest on Monday afternoon. After falling behind 3-0, the Spartans rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the third inning as Celina Nehmer, Brittney Willaert and Jennifer Willaert all hit two-out RBI doubles. However, the Pioneers logged eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings to turn the one-run deficit into an 11-5 edge, despite strong pitching from Nehmer. Simley posted the last two runs of the contest in the bottom of the sixth as infield grounders from Rachel Packer and Nehmer drove home Adrianna Guevara and Hailee Hren, respectively, to close the …
