State Rep. Joe Atkins is the chief author of the bill that is proposing alcohol sales during University of Minnesota events at TCF Stadium.
The University of Minnesota's Board of Regents is scheduled to vote toady at 1:15 p.m. on whether or not to allow alcohol sales during university events at TCF Stadium. State Rep. Joe Atkins (DFL) is the chief author of the bipartisan bill that, if passed, promises to bring in up to $2 million in additional revenue for the university. "As explained to me by U officials, the proposal being voted on by the U's Board of Regents today appears to meet both the letter and the spirit of the compromise struck between the University and the Legislature," Atkins said in a statement to Patch. Atkins continued: "It treats all fans equally, whether they are sitting in a regular seat or up in a fancy suite. It takes extra precautions to prevent serving…
Cleanup of the site, which lies just a few miles from Inver Grove Heights, was deemed complete in 1994 and the site was delisted from the National Priorities List in 2001. But a pending 2012 EPA review apparently will require further remediation on the la
During a June 28 public meeting to discuss pollution issues at the University of Minnesota’s UMore Park in Rosemount, many area residents were extremely vocal about what they said has been a lack of transparency about contaminants on the part of the university. After a formal presentation, residents quickly began vocalizing allegations that officials had lied about contaminants and conditions on the expansive property, located mostly within the City of Rosemount. But many still didn’t feel that the questions they raised about the site, a few miles southeast of Eagan, were answered. “There’s not full disclosure and I have a problem with that,” said resident Don Sinnwell after that meeting. “It needs to be cleaned up, and it needs to be done…

Budget cuts threaten the sustainability of the program.
The popular Master Gardener program in Dakota County will be facing drastic changes beginning in 2012, as Dakota County ends funding for the program. One of 16 regional offices of the University of Minnesota and Dakota County outreach delivered though regional and county-based offices, the Dakota County program was one of the largest Master Gardener programs in the state. The decision came because of a bad economy and a tight county budget. The funding cut doesn’t mean the entire program will go away, said Jayne Hager Dee, the regional director of an area from the Minnesota River to the Iowa border that includes Dakota County. Administrative duties, she said, some of which are currently handled by a part-time staff member, will fall on the…
