A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Cheryl has lived in the Twin Cities since 1994 and currently resides in South St. Paul. Before making her home in Minnesota, she lived a few years in Palm Coast, Fla.

She graduated from Northwestern College with a B.S. in Communications Studies, where she served as Class Representative for the FOCUS Adult Degree Completion Program and was their 2006 Winter Commencement speaker.

A self-taught web designer and developer, she also completed communications internships with the City of Edina and Northwest Airlines before working as an internal communications specialist and online news editor for the former airline and other companies. Among many other things, she maintained websites; took photography for publications; announced and published daily news; supported media relations, public relations, and marketing; proofread and edited -- and wrote a lot. In her experience writing for city magazines, corporate newspapers, employee newsletters and websites, she has especially enjoyed learning about people and sharing their unique stories and perspectives.

When she's not writing, Cheryl enjoys spending time with her two sons. She also dedicates time training in the gym for competitive powerlifting -- a sport that resembles Olympic weightlifting -- in which she is an American and Minnesota state record-holder, three-time women's national champion and USA gold, silver and bronze medalist. Her accomplishments have been featured in publications such as the Star Tribune and Powerlifting USA Magazine, as well as on KSTP Eyewitness News, Twin Cities Live, and KARE 11 News.

Cheryl has also appreciated joining photojournalist and reporter Jon Gross of KSTP to give motivational speeches at a middle school, and she was awarded the 2006 Notable Woman of Minnesota honor from Mary Pawlenty for her achievements.
