Get Out: Weekend Events in and around Inver Grove Heights

  • The Fourth Annual Great Neighbors’ Duck Races
    When/Where:
    11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, on Southview Blvd., South St. Paul
    Why Go:
    Have a fun-filled day at the fourth annual Great Neighbors’ Duck Races. Adopt a “duck,” race against friends and win great prizes. All proceeds go towards the food shelf and social services at Neighbors, Inc., northern Dakota County’s basic needs social service agency.
    Price:
      $5 per duck adoption, $25 family fun pack (5 ducks)
  • Tres Mundos (Three Moons)
    When/Where:
    1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Dakota County Library at West St. Paul.
    Why Go:
    At this event for all ages, the musical trio of Tres Mundos will explore the multicultural mix of history, language, culture and dance that have shaped the music of the Americas. Price: Free
  • Run the Valley 5K
    When/Where:
    8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at North and South Valley Parks, 2810 70th St. E., Inver Grove Heights
    Why Go:
    Enjoy autumn in Inver Grove Heights with a crisp, cool walk or run during the first annual Run the Valley 5K, sponsored by the HD39B Republicans. This is a race and walk that will follow a fast ‘out and back’ course in scenic . Water and Gatorade will be provided at the first and second mile markers and at the end of the race. Each registered participant will receive a Run the Valley 5K t-shirt.
    Prices:
    $25 for day of race registration (starting at 7 a.m.), $15 for active military members and families, $15 for students (17 and under).
  • Explore Your Parks
    When/Where:
    9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Fort Snelling State Park, St. Paul
    Why Go:
    Minnesota State Parks and Trails partners with The North Face for the second annual Explore Your Parks program, which encourages everyone to get outdoors and enjoy close-to-home recreation opportunities. Explore this metro-area state park and enjoy guided hikes, canoeing, fishing, snacks, speakers, demos, geocaching and giveaways—including "Explore Your Parks Minnesota" activity guides and free one-day passes to Minnesota state parks.
    Price:
    To get your free permit for the day, stop by the park office on your way in.
  • 27th Annual World Championship Booya and “On the Road Again”
    When/Where:
    9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 1, at the intersection of 8th Ave. and Southview Blvd. in South St. Paul
    Why Go:
    This is the annual South St. Paul Fall Festival, featuring the 27th Annual World Championship Booya Cook-Off, along with a car show, arts and crafts, ethnic food, local community booths, children's events and rides. For more information, contact Steve Mankowski, Southview 66 at 651-457-2774.
    Price:
     Varies; $6 for a 10-ounce bowl of Booya.
